Hello,
This morning I found out about a new leak that is pretty bad if I might say so myself. I believe it’s the fuel pump but I could be wrong. Has two hoses going into it, mounted on the lower pass side of the front face right behind the vacuum pump. Smelled like diesel inside the engine bay and the liquid was runny not like oil. I know this needs to be fixed but how high is the risk if I continue driving it until payday at the end of the week? (The pic was taken from underneath the engine)
I got a look at it with the engine running and it was in fact coming from that part circled. Wether it’s where it connects to the motor or from the hoses I’m not sure since visibility is hard in there. My drive to work is just over 10 miles and I’m already at work so I’d have to drive it home regardless. Funds are low at the moment but I’ll see what can be done
I don’t know where the clamp would’ve gone but I could slap a piece of tie wire on the line to get me home. I guess that’ll tell me wether or not is the line or the pump itself
Just watched a video on replacing that lift pump and it looks like that hose doesn’t have a clamp like the other one does. That hose goes inside the fitting and secures to it somehow. In the video the guy mentioned how his cracked on that fitting and that’s where his leak was. Don’t think there’s any type of securing I can do that’ll work on this
Besides the leak and smell of fuel did you notice any engine performance issue? When my lift pump failed I noticed reduced power. It was dripping fuel too.
I didn’t notice any difference from the other day to today but a week ago I did new oil, fuel, and air filters, ran diesel kleen through my tanks and filter, and changed the oil. That was when I noticed a change in engine pitch and a reduction of power. Figured that was due to the air filter since that was the first time I ever changed that on this truck. Today however I had no issues and didn’t notice anything off about it
The one that’s leaking is secured by the fitting itself. The hose inserts and the fitting tightens around it so I’m gonna try tightening it and then putting a rag around it to get me home
A rag won't help. It's only going to get soaked and be a fire hazard. Better to let it drip. If it's me I either leave the truck at work and show up with parts and tools and make the repair there or have it towed home.
If I'm driving home because the tow dough is too high, I'd let it drip away. Not accumulating in a rag.
Picked up the new fuel pump and was able to drive home with minimal bogging, and only a little bit of smoking from underneath the engine. Followed your advice and didn’t put a rag on it, just kept my rpm’s below 2500 and made sure to accelerate slower than any grandpa out there. It’s 105 out right now and I don’t have any shade and only asphalt to work on so I’ll be taking care of this matter in the morning.
