I run amsoil 5w-40 turbo diesel in my 86 460 with 140k on it. Leak is no more than using dino / blends. Used mobil 1 turbo for a while prior same experience with it. Maybe burned slightly more.
Seems like I'm using less oil now with amsoil. Not trying to sell it to anyone just my synthetic experience.
If seals are bad they will leak regardless of what you use. That's the sell with high mileage oils, they add seal conditioners to it to swell the seals/gaskets.
Can’t vote in the pole without some limits. I change my oil and filter every 10k. I use full synthetic for about 35 years doing this with no issues in all my vehicles. If I changed oil every 3k or 5k, I most likely would be using Dino or a synthetic blend.
I only started filling the filter a few years ago.
I use synthetic on everything except for older applications that call for non-detergent oil. I've seen a few leaks on older stuff get worse after switching to synthetic, but not the majority of them, and not so much worse that I can pin blame 100% on the synthetic. A 50 year old cork valve cover or a 30 year old glorified cardboard fuel pump gasket or a 40 year old oil pan gasket are probably getting tired anyways, so worth it to me to switch and know I'll probably be changing gaskets soon and get it over with.
I guess that means that synthetic oil helps me to procrastinate a little less.
