Yes I just signed papers on this truck this week, so I'm catching up on maintenance that has no records of being done. Have you ever found sediment/dirt in the bottom of your filter housing when you slide the cartridge filter out? Mine had a pretty good accumulation of sediment in the bottom. I cleaned it all best I could before reinstalling the new filter. But I wonder how that got in there?? Had to come in through the diesel filler neck, right?
Yes I have...

I am still puzzled as to how debris can get outside of the water filter separator thing filter. There are two lines, one on each side that connect TO the filter Maybe I missed it, but is there a third line that fills the case and then forces fuel through the filter? This is for the 17+ filtration where the pump is in the tank.
How often do you guys crack open the water drain and let it run? Seems that when I did it last time I lost about a half gallon of fuel at least. Not a big deal but hey $2 bucks is a coffee. Is once per month safe if I don't suspect that I got garbage fuel and everything else is otherwise OK?

I don't do it religiously, maybe once or twice between oil changes. When you are just taking a sample out to look for water you only need to drain maybe 8 oz. You do not need to drain it till it stops.
The only time I have drained until it stops is during a filter change. That should yield up to a half gallon.
