Thumbs up Ticking Noise

I just purchased a 1990 F-150 4x4 with a 302 efi. i turned it over today and after about 10 minutes there was a ticking noise. just loud enough not to be the lifters. i think... could one of you truck gurus please assist a noobie to the f-150.

I've had 3 Jeeps, and just bought a 95 F150 with the I6 2 weeks ago. All 3 of the Jeeps, and the truck all had clicking noises, and all ended up being exhaust leaks. check for that first, thats always the reason behind my clicking noises.

exhaust leaks, AIR system check valves, don't rule out lifters so fast ither. Especialy if it has aftermarket ones. Like rhodes or crane. Boy they are noisey. Use a peice of heater hose long enough to reach around the engine , like three feet or so and hold one end to your ear and the other end sweep around the manifold and whereever else you want and it will help a lot.

Check for a cracked exhaust manifold as well. My '90 did the same thing when the manifold had began to leak from a crack.

You may just be hearing the injectors firing. I can hear mine. They fire 4 at a time so if they're dirty they can make a little noise. Mine has a "chock-chock" sound to it.
