F600 Frame Components Supplier

Can anyone please suggest some frame parts suppliers. I’m in southern Ontario, Canada but will to drive to get parts. Always looking for an excuse for a road trip. I’m down to the bare frame and the truck was loaded heavy in its past life. Mostly I’m looking for the diagonal gussets from the cross members to the frame rails. I’m also looking for any original information on whatever the heck went on at the rear of this frame or what it’s supposed to look like. Lots of scabs on top of scabs. I can’t even make out what’s original anymore.

I have the feeling that the only viable/probable answer is locating a parts truck with a good frame.

I used the cab off this F600 for my pickup, as far as I know the frame is still there . It's located at Bert's auto wrecking in Dryden Ontario. You said you were up for a road trip...lol

Hmm. Dryden. 19 hours and still in Ontario. Lol. Maybe too far. Thanks for replying though. For the gussets I have that are broken I have all the bits and considered welding them back together as a last resort.

Is it just the one gusset that's cracked..? I think I'd be tempted to hog out the crack with a carbide bit and weld it, the metal looks solid. I had to source those for my F350 frame because the were badly rusted and rotted away around those rivets..

I have four that are in need of repair. Two at the front of the rear springs and the two ahead of that. I’m thinking about welding them. I’ll never work the truck as hard as it had been. I just thought if there was a source I would do the right thing and buy new. I also have a good cut and bend shop nearby that could make me new ones. They’re amazing at what they can do. They can be expensive though.

I would agree you would be fine welding the crossmember pieces back together. It's unlikely your truck will ever see the abuse it did in it's heyday that caused the damage.

Here's a page from the parts catalog showing the frame and members for a F600 truck. I'm also sharing pictures of a 51 F6 frame, which should look pretty much exactly the same as yours. The dimensions of the rails may be different, but that's all. The taper down of your rails is not correct.

It appears that the alterations were made behind the rear spring mounts. Therefore, it will not affect the operation of the truck. The frame could be repaired to look like it never was altered, if that was your desire. Before I went through that work and effort, I would decide what type of bed I was going to out in it. A previous owner altered the back of the frame for some type of usage and maybe the back part may not be needed your use.

If I were rebuilding the back end I would make some kind of elaborate hitch assembly that looks like the truck was intentionally made for the hitch.

Wow that’s like an epiphany for me to see what the actual end of the frame is supposed to look like. Thanks for sharing that picture. Is that bar in the middle for the spare tire somehow? I’m going to be making my own flatbed for this truck so no one will really see the frame ends but I can’t stand the way it look right now. I’m going to fab up some frame ends so it looks somewhat original.

Since the rear cross member was removed, if I was repairing it, I would remove the rivets for the rear spring mounts and overloads and have the frame sandblasted. Then I would put a liner in it (epoxy prime before final installation) and lengthen the frame, by welding, back to original specs. The mounts can be reinstalled with grade 8 hardware.

A rear cross member MUST be reinstalled to brace the spring mounts.

It looks like there was a dump bed on your truck and they cut and bent the frame ends down to allow the bed to fully raise.

That is what I was thinking.
You can see where it hit on the right side.

Thanks everyone for the insight. Looks like I’m gonna start by refabing what I can from the existing parts. Beyond that I’ll touch base with my cut and bend shop for parts I don’t have. If anyone has dimensions for the rear part of the frame rails that I’m missing I’d appreciate that. Even if it’s just the length from a common reference point such as the center of the rear spring mount. More is better of course. I’m also going to look at where and how to mount a hitch while I’m into frame modifications anyway. I’ll be sure to share some pictures when it’s done.

The parts at the back of the frame are for the spare tie carrier, as you surmised. It looks like you had part of it in your 'mess'. Unless you've destroyed it, it appears you may be able to save the rear crossmember by just cutting off all the ancillary added on steel. The rails on the F6 extend 13 1/4" from the rear face of the crossmember. Yours should be similar.

Thanks everyone for the help and guidance on getting this frame done. It took six months on and off but glad it’s done. Lots of scraping, grinding, drilling out rivets, welding, and painting. It now feels like I’m over the hump in the project and looking forward to putting it back together part by part.
