Hi folks, Is there any reason as to why you can't use other gen doorjamb switch/connectors? I'm having trouble locating a domestic supplier in Australia for my 1972. Denis Carpenter has them, but I'll get slugged for shipping on a $6 part. Can one use the switch/connector from a 6th gen? Or earlier 4th gen? Is the mounting hole different from gen to gen? Thanks
Yes they are different. The mounting holes are larger in the bumps then later generations. Also I believe later switches are grounded at the switch when door is open allowing for a single wire to connect. In the 67-72 there is 2 wires going to switch. So the power flows thru switch and to light.
With a little bit of wiring one could make a later switch work but would it be worth it? Do you have the metal brackets for the switch to mount to?
Yeah, makes sense.
I managed to convince a Denis Carpenter distributor here in Australia to order in some switches and connectors for the 5th gen. Will save me a bundle.
Cheers.
