Look up VIN
Hello I'm in the process of purchasing this vehicle. And would like to find out if the right kind & size engine & transmission are what came in it. But owner says it is a C600 & a 1978 model. But would also like to find out what part of the country it came from. D70GVAK1243

D70 = C700 Diesel (Possibly badged C7000)
G = Cummins V903 eight cylinder diesel engine, 903 CID
V = Kentucky Truck Plant
AK1243 = 1978 numerical series, October 1977 production
All your other info would be on the warranty plate on the driver door, if it's still there and if it's original.

Something is off with the vin decode
A 903 Cummins will not fit in a C cab truck
That engine was only available in the W, CL and some L series due to its large size
The Cummins 555 was available in the C model but it’s certainly no engine to brag about, actually it’s one to stay away from
It has about the same power and dependability as the 8.2 Detroit, for every one good one there’s a dozen bad ones
3208 Cat was the best diesel they put in a C cab chassis

The 6V-92 also comes up under that code for that year.
Is that a possible engine? The 555 doesn't show for that model year.

Did they put a 903 Cummins in the C-700. That engine is awfully huge. I know they put the V-8 Cat in it. These numbers are on the door jam. Can anybody tell me what they mean. The guy Im trying to buy this truck off of took about 4 days to get the VIN number for me. Then he sent a picture of it to me and it looks like a brand new title. That VIN number is on the plate on the door jam. Is that where they put them. He says it also has a 460 gas engine in it.

Not sure what years the small V8 Cummins was used but I did see one in a 70’s C model fire truck
The small V8 Cat is the only other diesel I know of that will fit in that chassis
1150, 1160 are earlier versions of the 3208

If it is a gas chassis it should have a 429 truck engine
