Hey all, so I’m an idiot and I’ve partially rounded the top bolt/nut on the 4R100 tail housing. I can’t fit a socket and ratchet completely over it because of the stud sticking out just a bit too much. I asked Jimmy at transmission bench if I could just cut the stud and then when rebuilding just put a new standard bolt in (the same bolts used on the rest of the housing, minus the two long ones.) He said yes.
My question is, why is there even a stud on this in the first place?
Might try a deep well six point socket so it's contacting the whole nut, and that might be a special bolt, long after the nut, for something to be bolted there.

Thanks for the advice, but sadly that does not work because right out side of the picture to the right is the transfer case mounting surface.
