no mess filter removal

another tip from my Noria weekly e-mail;

No-mess Filter Removal
This technique will help avoid a mess when changing your vehicle's oil and filter. Horizontally cut a recycled two-liter plastic pop bottle in two pieces, about halfway up. Slide either half over the loosened filter and spin the filter until it is unthreaded and drops off. Hold the cupped filter in position for a minute or two in order to catch any leakage from the filter housing before removing. I have found that it has eliminated most of the mess even on a nearly horizontally mounted filter.

Hope it helps someone. (I've never thought of it)

Good tip. I'll try it on my Fords at the next change.

Now if you know of a tip for an upside-down mounted Jeep filter........?

Noria.com is a great site. Also has Machinery Lubrication and Practicing Oil Analysis magazines, including backissues, on line. A lot of good information for FTE oil heads.

Makes sense to me!

But jeeps are kinda cool IMO, he should put a 302 in it. That'd fix his oil filter problem!

Pack it in dry ice until the waxes set and the oil jells so none comes out when you pull it off How about a remote filter mounting kit?

Its "pop" here in Michigan, but over and up in Wisconsin and Minnesota I believe they call it "soda." Things get rather weird in Wisconsin. I heard they call a traffic light a "Stop and Go" and a drinking fountain a "bubbler."

You beat me to it!
In Alabama every empty plastic bottle that formerly contained any type of soft drink is known as a Coke bottle.
