It will be a few days before he gets to blasting. When I did my 48 I used a brush on chemical stripper that bubbled up 3 layer of paint that I scraped off easily with a putty knife.
The kid doesn't want to do that because 23 years later I have some serious paint/rust bubbling on the truck. He's afraid the chem stripper did it.
In reality, 15 years ago our wise state road department decided to go to a "dry road" policy for 2 winters and dumped pure salt everywhere. If they had asked me about roads in the mid-west I could have told them it was a horrible idea. I was using the truck as a daily, year round and the salt got in the cracks n crevices before I knew what was going on.
So keep the ideas/experience coming. The more the better....thanks!
I can assure you and the kid if the stripper was an issue, you would know it right away. Paint doesn't dry on areas where stripper is active. You'd have gooey spots anywhere there was stripper. If it lasted 20+ years, you got your money's worth.
