Another Transmission Thread

2020 F350 with 7.3 motor / Job 1 / built 2-15-2020 / delivered 2-26-2020
85k ,miles..no signs or slippage. Went to make a U turn and would not go into reverse, wrench symbol lite up. Called my dealer said I was on my way to drop her off. During the drive to the dealer ( 85 miles ) the tranny would not go into 10th gear but drove well in 9th.

Not knowing if this is related, I did notice over the previous months that the truck would feel like it upshifted even though i was already in 10th as indicted by dash

Probably the worst part of this, its been two weeks and the dealer still hasn't dropped the pan to see what's going on. I'm guessing warranty work takes a low priority over big name clients and cash paying,

Hoping to get a new tranny and not a rebuild

After you get the verdict and fix don't forget to update so some future seacher might have an idea.

I take it you didn't scan for TCM codes to see what it showed?
And, trans tech's are always super busy, I tried a few different dealers looking for one that could get my truck in in less than 6-8 weeks, finally found a small dealer a ways out of town that was only a week behind, and thankfully, they took good care of me and my truck.

sounds like an issue internal to the trans.

85K...did you get an extended powertrain warranty? I thought 60K was the powertrain warranty?

Had a work Ford in the shop recently for a transmission issue at 46K. Took them 60 days to install a new transmission.

Good luck. I ended up ordering a new transmission wrapped in a ‘23 truck while waiting for a complete warranty ‘22 trans.

small update: One day short of 3 weeks. they dropped the tranny, to confirm a failure with metal in pan/ My service tech said the good news is he will ensure I get a fresh built tranny and not one sitting in a Ford warehouse. He claims he wants a fresh tranny with all the current updates ( if there is such a thing )

Ive know this advisor ( fleet services ) for many years. The down side is he cant give me a date for the replacement and pladed the order today. so I won't hold my breath....

On a good note and is why I feel he is helping me to an extent. My truck has been in the shop since 6/28 and have been given a loaner vehicle since and for the duration of my repair/ Thats been one lass thing to worry about.

that is good news but don't think they can control the build date of the tranny, but would be nice to have a fresh built one.

My service rep says my transmission is on order-critical. I'm assuming this is a priority request?

I appreciate the link, Interesting articles. a bit depressing to me as having an OE transmission and getting a new OE with potentially the same problems eventually,

My transmission is a 2020 model job 1, probably built in 2019. I hope Ford has made some type of improvements or upgrades since...key word HOPING.

Thanks for the info
