E40d transmission
In havung issues with shifting in My 97 f250 with the 5.8. It will shift trough every gear and drive beautiful if you shift through them Manually. but if you just put it in drive it will start out in 1st but it starts to shift and doesn't seem to know what to do and kinda shudders between gears and slowly luggs along. Its the same when shifting down, if you give it gas it starts to shift down but then just stays in the same gear and lungs along. I'm not real familiar with these autos I've always had manual trucks so any help would be greatly appreciated.

The place to start is to read the codes. Download Forscan at www.forscan.org. Their page tells how to select an OBDII port adapter. Once you have the codes we can help diagnose this. Without the codes all I can tell you is that something is wrong.
