For as long as I can remember my ashtray has stuck out at the bottom when closed. I can push it in but it comes back out as soon as I release it. Almost like it has a spring behind it, which of course it does not.
The second picture is of the area behind the opening. Looking closely it looks like possibly there is a piece that is broken off?
Any one have any ideas or a picture of the opening?
Thanks, Brian
Sorry for the pictures being so large. I have never been able to figure out how to make them smaller when they upload.
Thanks for that. Pretty sure I have never had that piece in the 48 years that I have had this truck.
I would imagine that the only way I'm going to find that part is out of a parts truck.
Brian, it looks like you're missing the whole frame - the spring is spot welded to the frame. Sent you a PM
I'm not sure what the 2 screws below your ashtray were for but they're not factory.
As a side note, the ashtray frame in my 50 F4 is slightly different - the frame and spring are a single stamped piece. I don't know when Ford changed the style.
This is the side view so I would say that the frame is there, just not that bottom part that you showed that the curved bottom of the ashtray rests in.
Yeah the two screws are an old hold over from the late 70's and early 80's when I drove the truck full time and installed one of those swinging cup holders!
Thanks, Brian
