E4OD free revs-Help
I was traveling on I-10 in my 90 F250, 460 x-cab. I had the overdrive button pushed in which disengages the overdrive unit. The truck was running down a slight grade at approx. 65mph. I pushed the OD button to engage the o/drive. It dropped the engine speed as expected but when I started to press the throttle, the motor free revved and downshifted to 3rd. There was absolutely no load on the vehicle. Same thing happened 10 miles down the road. I stopped for gas 30 miles later, only taking approx. 10 mins. and got back on the road. The o/drive worked correctly from there on out, some 130 miles. The motor was not running hot and everything seemed normal before I spotted this problem and after the gas station. Any ideas on what is going on? Any simple suggestions before I take it to a dealer? Any help is greatly appreciated.
