9" Axle
.I need to know if they are shimmed different or use different size shims ???
I need to know all/any differences inside the differential housing
Backlash set-up specifications , pinion , ring gear differences , etc...etc...etc...
A 9" is a 9".
(There were special ones, but they were in special cars)
The only difference you need to worry about is the carrier bearing size. I think they are 2.89" and 3.02"???? (Nothing to do with the engines)
Most are the 2.89" bearing. 3.02 were some of those special ones I was talking about.

Right before I logged in I was thinking I was gonna have to ask again for HELP because no one has responded..............then I see your gracious response
YES
OK , just to be sure I have a Ford service manual specifically for Ford axles . It appears to be printed in 8-66 so it may include the 1971 model ??? It list shim sizes & pre-load info .
SO all 9 inch gears & pinions , plates , etc ...etc... ( except special editions ) should use the same manual regardless if 1966 or earlier years !!!
Thanx again.......

Any advice , I am gonna try to build a removable carrier , locking differential with 3.25 ring & pinion , maybe 3.55........As I said ANY advice is more than welcome !!!!!
Make sure you use the proper hardware and use Oil Resistant red Loctite (formula 263?) on all of the internal bolts.
