Steering Box Question
My 55 steering box has a zerk fitting on top. However when I loosened the adjustment screw on the side. 90Wt gear oil came out.
What is supposed to be in there? If I read the factory manual correctly just grease.

I am under the impression that fitting you talking about lubes the top insert It’s not a bearing, but a insert on the top where the steering shaft goes. The steering box has a six point plug I just serviced mine. With 140 gear oil same stuff I use in my Harley 78 FLH transmission mixed with Rizlone. I have a small amount of gear play in my steering box. That’s why I went to the higher grade of oil. Hey I am not up to speed on this subject. But I jacked up my front end and that’s how I found the play in my steering. Also I’ve got a few other issues with my stock suspension. A later check book eater! AJ
