Our 2018 F150 4x4 (+245k miles) has developed a strong pulsing vibration during braking from 45ish to 25ish. Feel it mostly in the steering wheel, but it is felt through the whole vehicle. Passengers feel it.
So far I have tried the following with no change.
Bedding the brakes
Rotated and balanced the tires
Replaced the brake pads and rotors
Did the movement test to check wheel hubs, they seem good
My guess at those miles is that it’s time for new hubs and ball joints. Also, if you’re still on the original front struts those need to be replaced too.
At your mileage is may pay to consider some front end checking and maintenance.
For pulsating at slow down,
Here are some possible reasons.
Front Caliper slides Pins are sticking or frozen in place.
Front discs are not uniform in thickness as they pass between the Pads. This will cause pulsing and may even be temperature sensitive.
Over tightening front lugs can distort the Disc and the wheel center.
Front wheel balance is off and provokes shimmy from other worn parts. .
A combination of any of the above.
You got your monies worth already.
.
I already have experience with lugs to tight and front calipers sticking on two different trucks and know how it feels.
Good luck.
