Finally got it back!!!

Well - after sitting in Georgia for 4 months waiting on my house to be built - and me sitting in a hotel - I finally got my ride back...

Man it feels good to ride in it again. I was running out of room in the hotel room because of all the parts I had bought and was storing up...

Now all I have to do is find time to get them put on....

long time no see

hey man long time no see, you probably don't remember me, but you gave me some great advice when I had my explorer, well I got a 2001 5.0 mountaineer now, and I did somethings to it, MAC cold air intake, dual exhaust, and a superchip. I'm thinking of adding headers but I can't find any, got any suggestions? Also will be adding a supercharger once I get the money, maybe next year, man those things are expensive. Let me know what you think, oh its also all-wheel drive do you know how that works out with figuring HP. I've calculated about 268.8 now.

Good to see you back!

Unfortunately, you won't have any luck finding headers. Ford Motorsport was the only ones to ever make them, and they have been discontinued for a couple of years. You will see some on EBay every now and then, but they end up going for a premium price. I know a few people who a custom building some sets, but none have finished them yet.

As far as the superchargers go, there are really only two choices besides building an fabricating your own kit. Explorer Express has the Eaton setup (the one I have), and Powerdyne has a kit. Which one to get depends on what you want it for. If you are going for serious power, and plan on building the entire engine - in and out - go with the Powerdyne because it is better for higher rpm power. If you want everyday driving power - go with the Eaton. It does a lot better in the lower rpms and on up that daily driving consists of (towing, passing, etc). Plus you don't have to do any real engine building to use it. It works with all the factory parts (so does the Powerdyne, but you don't see the power until you are up in the rpms).

The AWD horsepower ratings are something I really don't know too much about. I think the normal power split is 60% to the rear and 40% to the front, or 70/30. Mine is only 2WD, and I wish I had the AWD for the winters in Salt Lake, but I am amde it through winter fairly well. Stock hp ratings are 215 hp at the crank. I imagine with the mods you have done, you are probably at around 240 to 250 at the crank. That would be somewhere around 170 at the wheels, so you can see the split on the AWD.

Hope this helps some. Maybe some others can help on the AWD a little more. If you have any questions, I'll try to help any way I can. And hang around some!!!

Hey man good to hear from ya, yeah I spoke to the guys at explorer express they said the Eaton will work on my mountaineer, but I'll get it when I'm ready to drop $3000 in the truck. I'm happy with the results I got so far. I guess I have to give up on headers on less I have them custom made. Thanks for all the great advice. Did you install the Eaton yourself? I can do some stuff, I installed the air intake and the superchip, never really took apart an engineer, got any suggestions. Maybe I can find out if explorer express has local install shops they recommend. Thanks again!

The Eaton is very easy to install. EE gives great directions with it. I did mine myself in a weekend. Took my time, and really paid attention. I ahve done it so much now, I can do one in an afternoon...

I know some people around NY and NJ that might be willing to help when/if you get one. They have the Eaton's themselves, so they know how they go on. When you get ready to get one, and if you want help, I can get you in touch with them. Both did their own installs. Its actually pretty easy. If you feel comfortable taking off the upper intake - then the rest is a cake walk...
