Calling all Gurus

Please help...Ok story time. 2011 Ford E-250 5.4L 4spd auto 4r75e trans 2wd 150k miles always serviced. All was good until the driver side cat/02 sensor was stolen. Drove it literally 20 yards out the lot and into the lot next door to weld on a new cat. Cat job complete with new 02 sensor. Now check engine light is on along with wrench light. Scan codes as follows...
Scanner says Permanent Codes
P0708 - trans range sensor circuit high input.
P0138 - 02 circuit high voltage (bank 1, sensor 2)
P0158 - 02 circuit high voltage (bank 2, sensor 2)
P0161 - 02 sensor heater circuit (bank 2, sensor 2)

It seems like its in a limp mode. Trans will not shift out of second gear. Odometer and trip light up but will not cycle. Speedometer needle not working.

I replaced the trans range sensor, turbine speed sensor and the output shaft sensor. Tried to clear codes again with no luck. Still throwing permanemt codes. Starts in park and neutral. Runs great. Just no speedo/stuck odometer/stuck trip/ stuck in second gear. All this from one stolen cat and 02 thats been replaced. I cant perform drive cycles if needed due to limp mode?. ..I'm stumped. If you've read this far thanks in advance for any input.

Check for damage to the wiring harness(es).

Thanks Don for the reply. I have pulled off the harness. It's the one that plugs into the bottom plug on the pcm. It runs along the top of the trans. This harness plugs into the 02 sensors, turbine sensor, output shaft sensor, trans range selector, and internal trans solenoid plug. I have used a multi meter to test continuity and all wires and plugs check out good. Wires in all the other other areas visually look good with no damage as well. Do you know of a way to bypass or get it out of limp mode?

You can try disconnecting the battery for 15-20 minutes. On newer vehicles this resets all modules. I don't know if this works on our older vans. I know that this will reset the OBD II emissions tests on my '97.

Thanks again Don. From what I'm told is starting 2010 and newer legislation has made it where a battery disconnect or scanner will not be able to erase permanent codes. They are permanently stored until a drive cycle recognizes the fix and codes will clear themselves. My dilemma is I can't get a drive cycle while in limp mode.

How sophisticated is your scan tool? You are correct that some codes can't be erased/cleared. But there may be a service function you need to initiate or something similar. I use Forscan. At a minimum you should check the PIDs for the sensors to see what the. PCM is reading. You will need to read-up on the sensors to see what normal values are, but having good data is a starting point.

My scanner is a Innova 3100f
I think it has what you're talking about, to check
numbers and values. I will definitely look into this. Thanks for the information.

You had better look into the pinpoint tests for those particular codes
You clear the codes, a few come back as permanent
You run the vehicle and retest
Then perform pinpoint tests on the codes that are new, and or the ones claiming permanent

Manic thanks for the reply. Exactly what you said is correct. The original codes were plain/generic. After i cleared them they came back as permanent. Im looking into a Breakout Box to interrupt my scanner wire. Im also told to look at the Transmission Control Module. Limp mode sucks. I hate chasing gremlins! Thanks again for the reply.

Just found another issue. It starts great, idles great and sounds great when I rev/floor the pedal.... But when I barely touch the throttle it slowly starts to rev to a high rpm (wot/wide open throttle) This new problem along with all the others (in limp mode, no speedo, no trip) makes me want to junk it. I can almost guarantee its something so simple its just finding it is the challenge. Quite possibly a lost ground (gray/violet wire) from the pcm.

That is a fly by wire stepper motor throttle body on your 11
Those systems have two TP sensors that must jive
If one reads incorrectly the whole shabang goes nuts
Can you read PIDS?
You are liable to need a new throttle body or a new gas pedal assembly
Another code test and an additional road test (after clearing the codes) then another road and code test
