Have a question for you boys and girls about a grille deer guard.
We purchased a 2002 F150 Super Crew last week. When we drive to propery we own in south Texas we can encounter deer, turkey, and goats once we are south of Commanche. I want a strong deer guard on the front in case we hit a deer. It appears to me most of the advertised grille guards/brush guards are a little too flemsy to tolerate a deer impact.
I would really appreciate anyones help with selecting a guard which will not cave in if we sustain a deer hit.
We are in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area but could work with any source between here and Rocksprings, Texas.

Hey Kingsun,
I may have found what I need. I found a site for a company in Richardson called Go Industries. They sent me to one of their distributors in Plano. Called this distributor and they carry another line called Ranch Hand which is made in Ft. Worth. I will get by their store in the next couple of days to check out the Ranch Hand. Their store does not carry the Rancher or Big Tex from Go Industries in the store.

wesg...
most of the guys out here in west texas use the ranch hand guards....they are pretty sturdy and from what I've seen would be the best choice. thousands of farmers and ranchers couldn't be wrong
Hi guys,
Made it to Joe's today so I could check out these Ranch Hand guards. Very nice, very heavy, 125 pounds, but not sure I care for the price $575.
We will be at the ranch over thanksgiving and I will check some local vendors to see if I can avoid the big city markup.

fIND a metal shop or a body shop and see if they can fabricate it for you the raw steel is cheap and a body shop should know where all the strong points for mounting are. I have a friend WHO made a bumper for his brother and he totaled the truck but the bumper looked good. just a thought
Hi Grim,
Yes, I have viewed Westin online, but not in person. The Westin guards appear to me to fall in the same group as so many grille guards which are made for enhancing appearance but questionable in protecting the front end in an impact. When I see guards described as modular for easy assembly, I doubt their strength.
Tell me if you believe I am wrong.
I am currently on the same path as Bri-Guy74 suggested. There are many little towns around our property in South Texas with welding shops who have made dozens of sturdy deer guards. I just hope I can find something functional and asthetically pleasing.
And fisher of man, thanks for the information, I agree the farmers and ranchers would buy the best.

Wes, kindly update me if you find something.. Looks like we have the same needs and I'm in the DFW area too..The ones I saw range from $475-$ 675. They are all nice but quite pricey and not as functional as we would want it..Have you check w/ "OWEN" I don't know if I got the name right.. Might also try checking the Grand Prarie flea market some time, I've hear they have some quality items at good prices every ones in a awhile.. Will keep you posted!!!
Not a problem Kingsun,
Will update you next week with any information I can find this weekend while we are down south. I do not know OWEN.
To all I wish a Happy Thanksgiving and hope you will enjoy your time with friends and family.

Not sure if you already purchased a truck guard, but i just bought a deer guard from
