Does anyone know what this mirror is?
is it a newer mirror head adapted to the 56 arm ?

Yes it is and I had the info somewhere ... that I can't find now. I tried re-searching for it with no luck.
I think the mirror head is off a mid 70's Mustang and the threads require a insert to fit the chrome '56 arm.
I will also be doing this project someday.

Thank you for researching this. I'm thinking about going this way because the round mirrors are terrible. The driver's mirror is usable but the passenger side is useless.

I've thought about the Jeep type mirror. The offset would allow it to sit higher in the window. I just don't like the rubber edge.

I don’t know I am partial to the round mirrors I have on my 1955.F-100 my right mirror has a convex truck 6 inch really easy to see off my right side. When I’ve driven my 55 I run the granny lane usually. But I use that right rear view a lot. Also like to travel the secondary roads. Stay off the multi lanes. Not to offend just my old ways!

Hello Ole F1,

I know what I am about to show is "blasphemic" but here goes. I saw these on a 56' panel at a show Memorial day weekend here in Middle Tennessee. I actually liked them. You definitely can see more using them which is EXTREMELY helpful in a panel.

Installed with minimal modifications

Thanks Don, that is exactly what I am going to do, maybe a bit smaller mirror head. I think I might order two each of the above to try. Thanks for posting.

Old F1,

Took a vacation day and was messing around with the 55'. Ran over to the local NAPA in town and after some trial and error search with the cool counter guy located a 5×7. Added an additional nut for the set screw and tried it. What does everyone think? Visibility in the blind spot is better.

Napa part # 730-5788

Does not look bad. My truck is a driver in the truest sense. I have been to.the scrap yard in it this morning looking for my next welding class project. The mirror may just work out. I will test it tomorrow.
