I replaced the distributor in my 94 460 with 55k on it. Does the wear on this pinion gear look norma? I assume the dizzy and cam are OEM. Seems like a poor mesh for factory.
I believe the engine is stock. I also didn't realize that there were different types of gears. There are actually articles written about them. Now that I'm squared away on the gear material, what are thoughts on the wear pattern. Shouldn't the pinion have wear across the majority of the tooth?
You will see all sorts of wear patterns on those gears because of variations in machining, fit in the block etc. Yours is just fine. If that is the distributor your engine was born with, during the era your engine was built, Ford used a gold zinc finish on the distributor gears people mistake them for bronze, but they are cast iron. Just stick a magnet on it.

Looking close, past the gold color ... but just at the wear marks ... I think you're right.
