I just returned from a 8500 mile trip in my 2002 Limited. Had no problems and really enjoy the vehicle on the road. There were four of us and lots of stuff as we were gone for 10 weeks. I would suspect 1500 to 2000 pounds of passengers and stuff (a little heavier at the end).
We averaged 14 MPG over the first 6500 miles. Two weeks in California traffic, primarily San Francisco and San Diego, pulled it down to an average of 13.8. I was still pleased.
We drove the Alaskan Highway in V10 powered class C motorhomes and I was supprised how well the V10 handled them. Must have been geared pretty low. We averaged about 10 mpg in that 3000 miles. Rented a Yukon XL in Anchorage for a week and while it is more manuverable, I like the Excursion better.
I find it inexcusable that the middle row capt seats do not adjust front to back. There is no reason for not having leg room back there.
Sorry to come back to the information that the Excursion days are ending. Its a great travel vehicle.
