I have a 79 f250 that was engine swapped with a 460 before I purchased it a while back. The truck has the factory AC box/vent plumbing. I’d like to fix the AC for when the 2-40 AC doesn’t cut it. From my understanding I just need the correct bracket/compressor, belt/pulley, and to plumb up the lines.
Is the bracket and compressor from a 73-79 351M/400 engine the same is the 460s?
Any info about 73-79 AC systems is welcome, thanks.
Compressor brackets for 351M/400 differ for 460. Compressor is same.
Is there an evaporator core and hoses with the AC box? You'll need a new expansion valve. You'll also need the condenser and new receiver drier for in front of radiator.

Guessing you'll use R134A?
Thanks for the reply. It’s got a condenser and drier still mounted. It’s got lines run for what I assume is the heater core because the heat works. No loose lines from where a compressor would have been. Haven’t gotten far enough to figure out what refrigerant, but 134A seems like a reasonable choice.
I know, this is destroyed, but it shows both the heater core and the larger evaporator core in the AC box, as well as a heater valve in the heater hose that I forgot to mention. New ones are plastic, but they work.
If you want coldest air, you will need a heater valve to shut off flow of hot coolant to the heater core.
My heater valve, hoses, etc.
I've neatened it up, but the parts are there.
You'll need to replace the drier and expansion valve at least.
Ha I took that pic and it is missing the blower motor....here is the way to cheat and replace the blower motor from the engine compartment. There are a few threads about it.
With the complete box removed.
Evaperator
Heater core behind it.
Blower motor behind it (already removed from the round hole.
Cruise this thread I have a lot of a/c diagrams in there. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...then-some.html
