OP, throw a disaster kit on it and keep burning diesel. It is good insurance if it ever dies and keeps repair costs more reasonable.

It depends on what state you're in... I'm in Cali Lite NY. Still over 4 bucks. There's a big truck stop off the I90 that's 4.09 last I checked but it's going out of my way and my last fuel filter change showed that the fuel I regularly buy is clean, good stuff.

Just south of you in the DPRNJ we are running about 3.50-3.60. You can get it for 3.30 if you don't care where it comes from. It's just a tiny bit more expensive than regular, but not much.

The BTU tax was pretty toothless by the time it got through congress.

Federal diesel tax is 24 cents per gallon, last adjusted in 1993 and is not indexed for inflation.

State fuel tax rates run a serious range...

PA is the winner.

South Eastern Mass is slightly cheaper but in the same ballpark of 3.69-3.99 can be found without looking too hard. Some stations are still over $4 per gallon. Who needs pipelines right?

NY actually isn't too bad, 8 cents a gallon fuel tax and other taxes and fees of just over .16 cents, total tax per gallon is just under 50 cents with the federal 24 cents. Just slightly less than Mass at just over 51 cents per. Of course there could be further municipal taxes and fees not accounted for here.

New York and New England get hosed due to no pipelines in, everything has to be moved by truck, rail or boat which is just more handling and transportation costs.

Yep, when she was younger. She has this fascination with glitter and at least 2 of my trucks were glitter bombed in the back from her. It helps the truck run better daddy!

If you ever want to get even with someone, glitter bomb their car, works every time.

Hows this for taxes. Wisconsin gas is $3.19, just south of the border in IL gas is $4.09. 90 cents per gallon difference. Diesel is $3.45 in WI, and $3.99 in IL, 54 cents higher. Needless to say the only fuel I buy in IL is when driving down south to leave the state since I have no choice, but thankfully only one stop. I also have the TSD card so diesel is even less expensive for me, last fill was $3.13 a gallon.

Filled up today at my usual spot... With discount fuel was $4.43 I believe it was. Forgot to grab a receipt... Off i90 headed east bound is Big Jim's Truck stop I believe it's called... For 3.99... So I'd save just over 5 bucks but use a gallon or so getting it... Not worth it to me because I already know im using good clean diesel with the last fuel filter set change... Primary filter came out real clean... But i do use K100D additive every tank... No matter what. But that's me...

Yeah, sometimes you have to factor in what it costs to get the cheaper fuel. If it takes 2 gallons to drive there and back to save $8, You didn't save anything. OTOH if you save $32 then its well worth it. Been there, Done that several times, but I also make it a shopping trip to stores I don't have around me.
