Service Engine Soon
1998 Ford Econoline Van Service Engine Soon light is on. This truck is not mine, it is a work truck and I am going to take it in for service but untill then I was wondering if I can read the diagnostic code by shorting terminals and counting flashes? Is it possible. I will thank you in advance for your input.

Hi novice and welcome to FTE 
Unfortunately on the newer vehicles you cant read codes without a scan tool. If you dont want to take it into a dealer you can get AutoZone to read the codes. Write down the codes they come up with and let us know so we can help you diagnose it. They will probably want to sell you some parts which may or may not fix it.
