Hey everyone
replacing rear brake pads on 18 f150
didnt put into maintenance mode originally and now having an issue getting it into maintenance.
anyway I can’t get the piston to compress back. Any tricks? Some brake fluid was coming out of there too. Pretty frustrated at this point.
thank you
What can we say, you should have put it in maintenance mode before beginning to remove the Calipers.
The system is alive otherwise and a [danger] to work on.
If you damage one, they are close to $2000 each that's $2k each.
Try this, remove the electrical connector from the motor.
Use a brake caliper compressor to >>slowly<< push the piston back into the housing (a little at a time) because your also pushing brake fluid out and back to the reservoir.
I just did mine a week ago with no issue.
Review the way to put the system into Maintenance Mode until you get it.
Get the sequence of Throttle to the floor and hold, Brake switch ON, Ignition ON and Off Sequence.
Lots of Youtube on this. Look as several until you get it.
Good luck.
Hopefully your able to get the truck into brake service mode by following the directions in the many YouTube videos out there. Since you were unable to depress the brake caliper pistons I @$$ume the truck is currently in pieces on safety stands? If so, you may have lucked out.
Make sure you rent a brake caliper service tool from your local auto parts store to depress those pistons. I'd go IN/OUT of brake service mode multiple times before attempting this.
