MPG Question?

I am just curious to see if my expy is getting the average MPG that everyone elses gets.

I have a '99 XLT 4x4 5.4 w/ 3.73 rear, with K&N filter in stock air box. I use 5w30 Mobil 1.

The past 3 months I have been driving about 90% city and 10% highway. I have been averaging around 12.2MPG, is this average?

My last tank since it turned colder here in western NY I have droped to 11.65. I am just curious to see if others with the same setup get the same gas mileage.

Thanks
Mark

What's your tire pressures set at? If they are too low that will cause a decrease in mpg. Maybe try resetting your computer by disconnecting either the negative or positive battery cable for approx 15 minutes. This will reset the computer and re-learn your driving habits.
Also, how many miles do you have on your expy? It could be time for a tune-up??
Just some suggestions, good luck.

My wife's 2002 EB 4x4 5.4 w/ 3.73 rear, with Fram stock filter in stock air box and Motorcraft 5W20 gets 12.2 also. She drives 2 miles highway @ 60 and 4 miles stop & go city to work.

If I reset it and drive it to work which is 20 miles of Interstate @ 70 and 20 miles of city expressway @60, I average 18-19 MPG.

12 city / 18 highway

My tires are at 35psi, I have recently reset my computer because of a battery change and my expy has 80,000 miles. I changed the plugs, air filter, fuel filter, trans filter and PVC at 75,000 miles.

I bought the truck with 73,000 miles and I have been tracking the mileage ever since february when I bought it.

I am not really worried about the mileage I am just curious as to what everyone else gets with their expy's.

Thanks

Mark

10.5-11.0 city
14.5-15.0 highway

You think these #'s are bad, my '68 gets about 6 mpg. But then again, I've always got my foot to the floor on it and I've only driven it around 1,000 miles in the 3 years since I restored it.

I have a similar set up: 1999 XLT 4x4 5.4 w/ 3.55 rear, with K&N filter in stock air box. I also use 5w30 Mobil 1. 61K miles.

Drive mostly country back roads. Avg 15mpg. I can get over 17 running 70 on the highway. Around town it drops to 12.

mpg

I usually get 21-22 MPG in the city with our 1998 eddie bauer 2x4 5.4L Expedition. Of course that is with my 1993 Blonde 5'10 3D-29-37 135 pound wife pushing with the engine turned off part of the way to help.

My Expy has the same specs you mentioned for yours, just a little older with 116K miles. 12 mpg is what I get consistentlly while around town. 16 - 17 mpg on the road at legal speed limit or 70 or 75. Next week I'll put on 4K miles of interstate driving with new upstream 02 sensors. I'll let you know if the mileage changes.

You might want to change the O2 sensors as well - seems to make a huge difference for everybody.

I stopped worriying about MPG's on my ride a long time ago, if I wanted to save gas I would have bought a "Focus" ;-)

2000 EB 4x4 5.4 3.73 w/ K&N drop in and 43K and 35PSI all around. I get 12.2 no matter what I'm doing... highway, city, idling.

Even with a 3.55 I don't see how 17+mpg average is obtainable!! miracles I tell you..

I drive about 50/50 highway and city.. at one time I saw 12.8 average.... now it's back down to 12.5
