This week I started hearing a squeal from the front drivers side wheel area. It’s only when turning, and worse when turning to the right. I’m assuming wheel bearings but wanted input on if it could be anything else before I tear into it. The wheel bearings are only a couple of years old so it’s a little surprising.
I would jack up the front and start by checking the ball joints and linkages for wear. Look for any wear spots on the tire and front end. turn the st earing wheel fully and check the travel, in both directions.
Put eyes on it and quit guessing. 😂
Check the bearings. When’s the last time you saw them?
Not guessing. Just not familiar with front end work other than bearings and thought I'd see if there was something else I was maybe missing.
Saw them 2 years ago when I installed new ones.
Brakes (disk and drum) will find reasons to squeal and get worse with turning but it's likely a bearing. They can be defective and fail relatively early and it's possible for water to enter if the seal or cap isn't right. You may not hear anything by jacking the truck up and spinning tire so you still need to get eyes on the internals as was mentioned. You may need to completely clean the bearings to see if they're fretting.
Btw, new bearings need new races. Knock out the old ones and press in new ones.
I would also be suspicious of brake hardware incorrectly installed or otherwise loose. And you’d not be the first to make a mistake installing a bearing/race. Did you pack the bearing well? I use my 30 year old Snap On bearing packer. Anyway, after two years your bearings are due to be repacked . As instig8r63 said, pull the wheels/drums and look at things.
