Timing cover install 351m

Timing chain is done but how do you get timing cover back on without dropping pan? Interested to see if anyone has been here before. I’ve found a thread of someone grinding away parts of cover and cutting front rubber gasket then using rtv in corners. Anyone got this done before ? Thank you happy Father’s Day weekend !

Maybe you ditch the rubber gasket and use fat bead of rtv ?

rtv instead of gaskets

the only gaskets in my 400 are head and a thin intake the rest is ultra grey or ultra black , zero leaks , i did add some extra into those corners where the rubber seal would fill that space

I noticed mine is cut, I vaguely remember doing it 30 or so years ago. Lip still locates the seal. Lets you lean it inward at bottom, then straighten it up and there you go. Seams to me I had seal in the trench. Yes on RTV in corners.

To add what Tbear said... He's spot on but when I did mine, I removed 3-4 of the oil pan bolts maybe more ..don't remember exactly, but the idea was to just let the front of the pan drop a little to make it easier to re-install the timing cover, then re-tighten the oil pan bolts after the cover is in place. The side gaskets didn't leak and I did add some RTV to the corners. Worked great.
