The dome light in my 95 is so dim it may as well not even be there. Tried a new bulb, same thing. Has anyone found a brighter bulb for this, LED maybe?
I used this festoon LED for the dome light since it is significantly brighter and is warm white. But I'm using the 96+ dome light with the clear lens not the goofy chrome one with the frosted lens. You can get a clear lens for it though. It is a direct swap and was used in a lot of 90s and early 2000s Fords. Just find a warm white or natural white 3000-4000k bulb not the 5000-6000k cold bluish color temperature which are a nuisance and make it difficult to see things.
Mine is the more basic dome light without the map lights (Base model XL). It uses the very small incandescent bulb with the standard base, not the 2 ended clip in bulb like yours.
I wish I had the dome with the map lights. No pick and pulls in my area. Going to look for one on Ebay.
I spoke with an electrician buddy of mine last night. He has some 12 volt LED peel and stick tape lighting we use for under cabinet lighting in kitchens. It's very bright warm white.
I may play around with that a bit.
Thanks Texas guy for the ideas on the stock Ford light.
I replaced the lens with a clear one and an LED bulb from LMC several years ago. It’s like daytime in the cab since I did that.
I have the clear lens. When I shine a flashlight through it, it's clear. It's the crappy bulbs that give it a dull yellow glow. The bulbs are similar to a trailer marker light bulb. Very small and very dim. I checked the voltage to the light fixture. It shows 11.9 volts with the key on.
I believe these are the ones I used, don’t know what brand they are but they are extremely bright, and warm white like an incandescent. You can also swap in a dome light with map lights.
