Good morning gang. Just doing a little pondering this morning. So I live in Middle Tennessee. I'm thinking of taking a solo ride late summer/early fall the first week of OCTOBER. I Enjoy hunting parts. I enjoy the open back roads and cruising. That being said which would you all do.
Go to Cruisin the Coast for the Thursday and Friday portion of the event leaving home on Wednesday and driving back Saturday
Leave home Wednesday go up towards St Louis and run maybe 200-300 miles of ROUTE 66 and head back home Saturday morning.
My summer is tied up pretty much so going to Louisville NSRA or Woodward Dream Cruise, annual trips, are off the table for this year.
I voted for the Route 66 cruise. I've been to a lot of car shows, and you probably have, too. There will always be more. Given that it was one of your choices, it sounds like the 66 cruise may be a bucket list item, and we never know how many opportunities we'll have to fill that bucket. There will surely be a lot of fun and memorable things to see there, not to mention the history of those who traveled there before us.
The part of Rte 66 you are proposing has very little in the way of excitement, IMO. I have followed that route many times and there are only patches of the "real" Rte 66. Joe "Harrier" isn't too far from it, may be able to add an opinion.
Time out! You are missing a great option Truckstock! It is October 6,7,8 at Bald Eagle State Park in PA.
I haven't followed Route 66, but it might be a challenge following the actual route. Of course there are signs everywhere trying to cash in on the route. A drive through Missouri is always a good option.
It looks like it pretty much follows I 44: https://www.theroute-66.com/route-66-missouri-map.html I'm a ways north in Jefferson City. You are always welcome to visit on your trip.
700+ miles seems lot a lot solo in a 70 year old vehicle. I drove 220 miles to truckstock last year and it was uneventful. If it was 700 miles I'd rent a trailer again.

Be bold! Jim and I have gone 900+ miles one way in our stock trucks. I think Bob went even further when he went down to Tennessee. Bob even got lost and did brake work in an auto parts parking lot to make it more interesting.
...agreed on the trailer. Actually driving the old truck is what makes a trip an "experience". Last year's round trip to TS22 was 2,250 miles. Going up to and over the Mackinac Bridge added some miles to the trip but still well short of Ross' impressive journeys. The longer the trip, the greater the adventure. I'm still thinking about Saskatchewan...
My Daughter and family just took the Route 66 trip from St Louis to California. They had a blast, staying at the old places and stopping to see the sights.
Back a few years ago I proposed a get together in the Greater St Louis area, aka Truck Fest, unfortunately it didn't happen. One of the things I was planning was a cruise on Route 66 in St Louis. There are Several routes that 66 took through town through the years. Just an FYI!
For those that haven't gone; Cruising the Coast, it is much more than a "Car Show". It's kinda a car guys Spring Break. It's defiantly a bucket list for any vehicle enthusiasts.
While I've yet to make it to Truckstock I have every intent to make the trip and experience the PA hospitality.
All this being said, I too didn't vote because ANY trip in our old trucks is an adventure and experience to be enjoyed and remembered. Oh yeah, no pictures, it didn't happen.
Good Luck on whatever you decided Donald.
BJ, I think a TS somewhere in the Ozarks would be great! I'm not a fan of big gatherings, so the CtC didn't get my vote.
