My emergency brake cables are shot on my 60 4X4. I've ordered a new front and rear cable but I can't figure out how to remove the front cable from the pull handle. I looked in the shop manual but it isn't covered, as far as I can tell. All the cables were frozen in their sleeves and I've got a terrible feeling the front ones gotta be free to release it from the actuator handle. Any ideas
Really going by memory but I think you have to take the pull handle assembly down off and the handles pushes forward enough to let you see the connection that was inside of the tube. That may well be a pipe dream but it is all I got without going out and taking mine apart again, it has been quite a while.
Thanks for the quick response. My handle twists MAYBE a 1/16" (there's a pin that won't let it turn more than that). When I push in on the handle it doesn't move more than a 1/4". Definitely not enough to see how the cable is attached to the handle.
Spurredon you are correct! To get the front emergency brake cable off the handle assembly You've gotta pull this ball out of the shaft. Mine was really hard because the cable was frozen in the sleeve. The shaft is slotted with a hole for the ball on the end of the cable to lay in.
