In case you were wondering, this is what an early CDF drum sleeve looks like when it moves. 10R80 or 10R140, if you don't have the updated drum, you will probably end up with this issue. I do this for a living, so I see them all the time now. In the 10R140 it can cause hard engagements, binding going into 4th, sometimes 10th, other issues as well, 10R80 is basically the same. 44K miles on this one, my truck, 2020 F350.
Gents, my 20 F150 is currently under the knife at the dealer getting a new CDF drum. It would exhibit slamming into 3rd or 4th at neighborhood speeds; as well as, slamming into REVERSE in the morning backing out of the garage (I suspected that was u-joints). It only has 55k miles.

how much has this been running cost wise for a 10R80 out of warranty? Would the failed CDF also be a likely culprit for a really harsh shift from neutral to drive with the trans up to temp?
The question is, when did Ford start installing an updated drum? Ever? My early '22 at 65k is working fine.
my uneducated guess is sometime before 22 MY, because my 22 is also fine, about the only time I ever even feel a gear shift is when I come to a stop on a steep down hill when it goes into 1st and only because how low 1st is.

Thanks for sharing. Isn't there a snap ring that's coming out of its machined groove causing some of these same problems?
A co-worker just had the 10R80 in her Expedition worked on for this. Now it slams the higher gears and de-rates in 10th on the highway, shifts back down to 7th and regains power. They said it has nothing to do with the work they did even though it didn't have that issue before. Out of warranty of course.
