So I bought this 1985 ford f250 6.9 four speed and it supposedly has 91k miles. I was told it was driven hard. Everything is fine except for the engine I bought the truck for $500 and I probably have $500 extra into the engine. It was running on five cylinders when I got it and now it’s running on seven when it’s cold and eight when it’s hot. It smokes a lot at start up but when it reaches operating temperature to smoke, dies down quite a bit. I replaced all the soft low pressure rerun lines and seals. 4 injectors all on the passenger side of the engine and replaced the fuel pump. I also changed the oil and replaced fuel filter oil filter and air filter. When I crack all the lines it almost stops smoking. About the same as when it’s at operating temperature. What should I do should I just run it into the ground? should I put a new engine in it? If so how much do they run? I am 15 and have 30 bucks to may name. This truck has drained my wallet.

The brakes could be the vacuum pump/no vacuum, vacuum lines/Connections, booster, no fluid/air, frozen cyls in calipers/drums, pads/shoes. If your brake fluid is dark it requires changing, but that can wait until you figure out if your booster is bad.
Smoking could be a restricted return valve in the IP and maybe why the smoking is reduced when lines are cracked. Maybe someone has turned the up your ip. Your issues of picking up cylinders could be a low compression issue that increases with heat/oil/runtime. You could just let it idle for a few hours to see if it smooths out. You should check the compression stone cold, then hot; or hot then stone cold. I hope this helps.
Being as the odometer on it would roll over at 100,000, it probably has quite a bit more than 91K...
Brakes are extremely important, and if you want to live to 16 and older, I would highly recommend figuring out what is wrong with the brakes.
Injectors on these are best serviced as a set, and generally the injection pump wears out at around the same time the injectors do. That doesn't mean you need to swap the other 4, but something to consider.
What color is the smoke at start up? How well do the glow plugs work?
Was the truck being used when you bought it? Or has it been sitting for a while? Running some ATF through the fuel system can clear up some problems that happen when a truck has been sitting for a while. Fill the fuel filter with ATF, run it for 30 seconds to a minute to let the ATF get into the pump and injectors, then shut it off and let sit overnight or longer. The fire it up and run it hard for a few minutes. If that doesn't help, repeat again and should help clear up gummy deposits in the injection pump.
