So I decided to pull the trigger and get me another SCT x-cal tuner for my truck. Mainly just wanted to have the ability to turn traction control off when needed and to have on hand whenever other parts come in for my truck.
I have been running either E85 or 93 in my truck and that's the only fuel it gets (I drive my truck a max of 3-5 times a month so the cost of either isn't a huge issue) without a tune. I installed both the 91 and 93 codes and got a P2195 code and a pretty rough idle. Has anyone experienced this with their canned tunes? I plan on getting a five-star tune next week but wanted to see if any of the canned tunes were worth anything.
When I return the truck to stock or 87 tune it runs fine. I can't imagine it's fuel related as I've used 3 fuel stations and it runs fine stock or mostly stock.
The rough idle and error code you encountered could be due to the canned tune not being optimized for your specific fuel type (E85 or 93). It's possible that the fueling and air-fuel mixture parameters in the canned tune are not aligned with the requirements of your modified setup.
That's what I figured. I actually ended up going to a local tuner and he was able to sort the truck out. It definitely feels completely different. It didn't exactly struggle before but now if traction control is off (and I mean actually off) it will smoke the tires pretty decently with a hard launch. I've read several threads before where people got the tuner just for the shift improvements alone and I have to say I've seen the light.
So, it goes without showing that the old saying that canned tunes are pretty garbage holds true because the truck has been running great. I'm going to a Dyno to do a before and after just because. Still waiting to get an answer about headers because I got some from a friend of mine for next to nothing that were going on an 08 but I don't know if they will fit my 10 5.4. I posted a thread but all I got was the typical unhelpful "post ur truck info" response and literally nothing after haha. I don't want to go through the hassle of taking the stock ones off only to find out the new ones don't fit and have to redo it all.
