2017 fuel system codePO455
2017 Explorer Base. Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected. I had a mechanic diagnose and replace the fuel inlet. It fixed it for 2032 miles. Same error code is back.
Suggestions? Please! $688 for a 2000 mi fix doesn't cut it. I had it repaired while traveling. Mistake. Can't take it back.

The P0455 means that the system tried to seal the evaporative emissions system and then pull a vacuum. The data from the fuel tank pressure (vacuum) sensor says it was unable to do so by the required amount in the allowed time. The usual reasons are that the purge valve failed to open or there is a gross leak in the system that is preventing it from being sealed. Could be a failure of the fuel inlet, whether cap or flapper, to seal, a vent valve that didn't close, or any other breach in the integrity of the sealable system. Bad or aftermarket gas caps used to be the usual reason.
The recommended troubleshooting procedure, if a visual exam isn't productive, is to use a smoke machine to gently pressurize (a couple of pounds max) the system with the vent closed and see if you can see where the "magic smoke" is escaping from.
