Hey everyone. I have a question about some weird things my 2013 F150 FX4 has been doing. I took it in and had the recall done for the downshifting into 1st gear issue. A little while later it started randomly downshifting, speedo went out, odometer went out, cruise went out, and airbag light came on. Did a little research and there is another recall for these symptoms under TSB 13-6-8 for a bad leadframe where it locks into 5th gear and throws code P0720 and P0722. Mine does everything that TSB calls out except it does not lock into 5th gear and doesn't show those codes. It still downshifts and upshifts, just not into 6th. Once I stop, turn it off, and restart it, I'm good to go. It might go two weeks before it does it again, it might do it again the same day. I can't find a pattern. I took it into a transmission shop and since it has 180K on it, they said I should just replace the whole transmission even though it shifts fine and doesn't slip. They were able to pull code P1724 from it but had no idea what would cause it.
same thing mine did.
kept getting a "soft code" as the dealer called it. Told me to drive it there when it did it again. They took pics and video of the codes, sent to Ford and was told, "nope, the code gets reset when the key is cycled, so we aren't paying."
two weeks later I finally got a hard set code (whatever is in the TSB) and took care of the lead frame. No issues since then.
Definitely lead frame and that shop is right about just replacing the unit because of mileage, what they didn't tell you is that lead frame is still on worldwide back order. There have been a few so called "reman" leadframes out of China on ebay and other sites. Hit or miss for those that got them.
