79 351m distributor wrench

Anyone have a picture of what style distributor wrench to use to get distributor hold down nut off ? Spent a good amount of time with wobble extensions with no luck looking at getting distributor wrench but there are quite a few out there ? Next thing will be if it comes out or not haha

Not mine, but just exactly like the ones I've had for a long time, one was mine I bought before I met my Wife, the other is a Snap On that was in his old tool box. The coupler will let one use either part alone with any 3/8 drive extension or ratchet or breaker bar, or with each other. 1/2" and 9/16" ends.

Easy to make one using a old box end wrench, a piece of round bar stock and a welder...

They come packaged together, if you take one and pair it with the other, it gives you the handle. That larger knurled piece has a 3/8" square hole through it, they both will fit at the same time.

I use this kind. It sneaks in with the short neck a lot easier that the 90 deg version on my 351M.

Here’s on on eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/32563741044...mis&media=COPY

ND covers this in a few threads. Part specs below. Head size is indeed 1/2”. Doesn’t mean yours was t replaced with something different. To verify fit just get a Socket on the bolt. You might need someone with smaller hands to get it on/off.

20386-S8 .. Bolt, Distributor Clamp ~ 5/16" -18 x 1"

I like Rich’s idea of using a spare box wrench. Should be 1/2”. just bend it to your preferred shape. I did the same for my oil pressure sending unit which is a real pain.

The one I posted above is great because of the short return and curves. It slips in beside AC and wraps around distributor. It’s all about the angle and return length for your setup.

Even with a direct drive fan I've always just used a regular open/box end wrench. I can see the distributor wrench being a little more comfortable/safer but a ratcheting wrench is faster.

Most double box ends come with 9/16 and 1/2 paired, besides some engines do use the other end.
