Poll on CP4 failures

Update: I’m not with any org or study group. Only motivation here is to try and actually have some numbers for those with concerns when trying to purchase. It will take some time probably for the polls to start being useful.

A member pointed out correctly that I probably should have added an option for I have owned other than Ford and have not had a failure. I can’t edit so this will be primarily about Fords.

Options
I've experienced a CP 4 while owning a Ford PSD/Super Duty driven more than 50,000 miles
I've experienced a CP4 failure owning a Ford PSD/Super Duty driving less than 50,000 miles
I've owned a Ford PSD/Super Duty and have not experienced a CP4 issue driven have more than 50,000 miles
I've owned a Ford PSD/Super Duty and have not experienced a CP4 issue driven less than 50,000 miles
I've experienced a CP4 failure in a truck other than Ford

Allowed multiple answers to only allow those that have not had a failure but have seen it with somebody they know. Personally have a good friend with a 16 or so that just went through the issue on.

I myself am at less than 50K on my 22 6.7 and have not experienced a CP4 failure. However, I have a family member that had a 17 which had some sort of fuel failure that resulted in the complete loss of the engine.... I don't know what exactly happened because she couldn't even explain things when she was telling me about it. I feel like whatever happened was more a result of her lack of knowledge about owning a truck with a diesel engine or the maintenance that was required on it. Regardless, I did vote for one of the friends having the issue...

I'll also add that I installed an S&S DPK around 5k miles and I have used additives since new. I started with OptiLube XPD but switched over to Hot Shots EDT. I also add Better Diesel FBC in each tank.

I have owned a 2011 and 2015. Drove both slightly over 100,000 miles each. Zero problems, but 80% of fuel was at large truck stops, did religiously drains water separator monthly (never a sign of water), and use fuel supplements to minimize exposure.

So I only get one vote but I’ve owned two 6.7s (a 2017 with 54k and a 2022 with 10k) and neither have had CP4 issues.

What requirement meets a failure? I had one that due to wear tolerance just wouldn’t flow enough
volume on a hard pull. I also heard of another one that did the same thing.

But it did not trash the system. Simply replaced the pump and gtg.

I like the poll and not trying to nit pick, but in order to keep the poll weighted neutrally, you can't have this question without a counter: I've experienced a CP4 failure in a truck other than Ford

So you should add: I've not experienced a CP4 failure in a truck other than Ford

I would say just answer with the estimated total miles you had on both.

I'm really glad you started this poll! I here stories out there about the cp4 horror stories and this will help judge how often this problem happens and if I should install the disaster prevention kit.

What about start a poll if anybody with the DPK installed/and type with CP4 failure had to replace anything downstream of the pump?

I have a new 22 KR 6.7 CCSWB with only 5K miles and use hot shots since day one, thanks to the information I found here. I also drain water very frequently and 90% of the time only use truck stops at open roads for diesel. I've never found a drop of water in my fuel. I even added some in my catch container a clear glass jar just to make sure i knew what it looked like. All that said, I think it's too early to for me to vote here since the truck is so new?

For those that had a failure, was it covered under warranty?

That would have actually been a good option to have included.

I have owned 4 6.7's and have put def in all of them. drained and cleaned best I could but still. I put on 100k miles or so afterword and they still ran strong. Go figure. Power Service Clear,Kleen,911 all added after the fact to get any bit's left if that's possible.

Mined was………but in typical Ford fashion, no parts were available! They were on national back order with no idea when they would be available.
