Expert opinion?

Hello, I've been lurking here for a while while I've been waiting to take delivery of my purchase of a 1994 4.9 XL. It spent much of its life in the NW coast, so it was exposed to salty air. I'm far from a mechanic so I'm wondering if there's anything I should be concerned about based on the pictures. The rust seems superficial to me, but I've been wrong before, especially when it comes to vehicle purchases. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

Has it got any oil change stickers on the door?

How many miles on the odo?

The paint on the underside of the hood looks damn good.

That looks like a good truck. At least no one has Frankensteined it.
Rust on filter is no worry until it rust all the way through and starts to leak oil.
Those that have spent time offshore will factor in the location and condition.
Looks like it was at Coos Bay.... LOL
Keep us posted.

Never seen one that bad but I've seen a lot that are close on Subarus, 302 Explorers and other stuff that has the filter low and forward and exposed to a ton of spray.

Yeah. Like I said, I'm no mechanic, but the oil filter looks like there should be barnacles growing on it.

Hah. Washington coast, but pretty much the same thing. It lives in the Willamette valley of Oregon now.

It does have an oil change sticker and it's not due for a while.

Only 55k on the odo!!! Probably explains why some of the paint is like new. The engine drives her like new. But there's going to be some relatively minor repairs. Horn and windshield wipers don't work. Obviously will need an oil filter. Stupid stuff like that. But I'm very pleased.

So the date on the sticker says it was done less than a year ago?

It looks like no one has “re-engineered” anything but that doesn’t mean parts aren’t going to fail from still so much.
