2000 f150/4.6....trying to find the engine coolant temp. sensor..The haynes manual seems incorrect,it shows the mechanic checking it on the front of the engine,on the side of the head, drivers side, i found that sensor, but it appears to be bathed in oil not antifreeze, then they suggest wrapping the threads with teflon tape when replacing?..this sensor from the previous photos has no threads,it is held in place with a holdown bolt & sealed with an o-ring......Is this possibly the cylinder head temp. sensor ,and they are using it for engine coolant readings also...i believe I read that ford does that with the 5.4....please help,I am getting a PO125 code that suggest trbl with the engine coolant temp. sensor
I am not sure, but i think it is in the intake manifold. Standing in front of your truck it look to the left of the alternator, and back a little. The one thats in the head is the cyl-head temp sensor i think. I am working on a 99 f-150 and cant find it as well. 97-98 have them in the intake. I think the 2000 has only one sensor in the intake. I was told by a Ford service center that it was in the intake, which it is not, just some plugs where the sensors would have been on a 97-98 4.6. I was told it was in the head by the same dealer. That turned out to be the cyl head temp sensor. My book is wrong, as well as our computer
I managed to find a friend of a friend who works at Ford dealer...Had the mechanic call me & advise that on my truck there is no ECT sensor..Ford uses the CHT sensor readings to do whatever the ECT readings would...If you get the PO125 code it is most likely a stuck thermostat which nowadays are made to stick open. You may notice that your truck is also running slightly cooler or takes longer to warmup.....I did replace mine last week & so far, no more code....And for whatever it's worth, the CHT is located on drivers side head,in the front, right below the air intake tube.
Thanks motox411.
I removed the sensor in the head on the front drivers side. The parts person confermed what you said. Thanks. I wish they would have left things the way they were. Where is the sending unit for the temp guage, any idea.?
