Hi all, newbie here , Art. I recently purchased a 2002 F250 SD. with the V10 and automatic. 144k miles,
I have some minor problems to work through. Glad to find this forum, Art.
Hi all,
My first post here. Recently bought 2002 F250 SD, V10/auto. 14.2 mpg hiway, empty. Issues: Gas spills on ground at near topping-off.
When pulling heavy loads, I expect to be in 3rd gear ?
Will convertor remain locked up, as I want ? Rear gear is likely 3.73/1 or 2k rpm at 70 mph. I will check ratio. Currently exhaust is all original and I suspect mid-length hedders, 3" muffler
/exhaust and test pipe, will improve mid-range torque and fuel economy ? O2 sensor from cat should plug into test pipe ? Single turbo might be a last option.
Bed cover and vortex generators on top/rear of ext, cab, should help reduce aero drag.
Skilled advice please. Thanks, Art.

Depends on the throttle input, load, frontal area, wind speed, wind direction, grade, tire size, differential ratio, road surface, air temperature, altitude, tire inflation pressure, tire type, and weight.

We'll need to know tire diameter as well.

I wouldn't. It would improve top-end horsepower a little but that's about it in my opinion.

Not sure what you're trying to do here.

Turbo . . . charger or turbo . . . muffler?

Thanks for your reply. I will gearshift to3rd. as needed. IF I do this, will convertor remain locked ?
"Turbo Muffler" was used as sales hype. Way back when, the real TURBO Covair muffler was pretty efficient.
I consider 2.5" single exhaust, somewhat restrictive for10 cyls. and 6.8L.

Ah, okay turbo muffler. It might help a little. Factory exhaust flows pretty well to begin with.

It's not bad. 2.5" is pretty good for five or six liters, 6.8 is only a little bigger than 5.8 for example. If you are going to have it wound up a lot, then 3" might help a little. If you're looking for the sound then definitely go for it. I like the sound of a slightly opened-up exhaust on a 6.8 V-10.
I always appreciate skilled answers. Have you actually owned a V10 powered F250 SD. ? Been underneath ? The design is 1.5 stupid ! Perhaps same engineer as Pinto gas tank to rear end crash sequence ? Driverside 5 cyls..feeds smoothly into Y pipe at 2.25" od. Pass side 2.25"od. chokes into 1.5"id. at 90 degrees, into y pipe. Quote" It's not bad for 5 or 6 litres:". Please spare me any future skilled input. Onward, Art.
