Considering buying...

A flareside F100 has popped up for sale near me. 1982 year model. I have a terrible soft spot for these. Are there any particular red flags I should be aware of? Structural issues or such? This will be a restomod if I buy it but I don't want to get too far over my head. They're asking $2k. Any insight would be helpful.
Thanks!

Sometimes you just have to jump when things pop up like that.

On rust I would check over the frame really good mostly at the rear.
You can get the spring hangers but not the frame rails or cross members.
Cross members would be junk yard and also the frame part if rusted.
Cross members can be bolted back in but the frame would need to be welded and plated.

On the cab body only rust I would be worried about is the roof along the rain gutters.
You can get floors, cab corners, rockers lower inner & outer doors and part of the door posts.
Yes I have used all that to fix my 91 F100 flare side.

For the bed you cant get the bed sides, fenders and filler doors / box / hose, Lic. the plate bracket or light brackets.
So you will need to fix the bed sides & fenders.

You can get everything else.
The tail lights you get are for other makes but work, plate light maybe for different Ford models but will work.
Yes I had to rebuild mine but I made a change, swapped the wood floor for a ribbed metal one.

Oh I did a 4 year cab off frame rebuild on my truck.

Thank you! I have some experience with rust issues from old Mustangs in the past, so it's good to know where the trouble spots are. 👍

I did forget the fenders in normal places, you can get them after market.
Hoods rust where the hinges blot up and think across the front edge. Can get it too.

Radiator supports rust where they bolt to the frame.
I think there were 3 different ones made. 1 is a diesel so if you get a gas truck you dont have to worry about that one.
There is a 80 to think 83 and one from 84 to 86 and is based on the radiators and how they bolt to the support IIRC
I think all you can get is the later one but not 100% sure on that?

Also note if you are looking at 80 - 82 think it is F100's they come with 2 different wheel bolt patterns and because of that different front suspensions parts that dont inter change.I found out the hard way.
Think that is the most of it LOL
