Just picked up this 1992 XLT extended cab!

So, I just picked up this 92 XLT as my first truck. It’s got a sweet paint job, a light bar, some nice American racing wheels, and it’s clean title no accidents! 180k on the dash, all new interior too! Picked it up for 5 grand, but I’m noticing a few issues it has that I would like to get fixed. First is the passenger door lock, a few days after I picked it up the lock turns but does not unlock. It only works from the inside- are there any simple fixes? Second of all, the truck seems to crank with no key in the slot? Anyone know a remedy? Last off, the MAIN problem- it’s got an oil leak. I don’t know what the deal is. The oil pressure gauge shows that the level is staying the same, but it looks gnarly under there. Thrown all over and caked on- but there’s never a puddle of oil under the vehicle. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle it, I’m not super mechanical as of yet and don’t know common leak spots- any input?

Welcome.

Sounds like time to rekey it all. Runs about $120 for three or four keys from Wolf Security.

Oil leaks? Clean it all, oven cleaner works great. Start looking. Typically valve covers, oil pan, front and rear main, oil pressure switch at times, china rail, etc.

It is a 30 year old truck. Everything will leak.

Baseline it too with coolant flush. Check rear axle fluid. Fuel filter. Oil service. Trand service.

It would be a bigger issue if you didn’t have oil caked everywhere !

Remove the door panel to see what is happening. Umm… the oil pressure gauge shows oil pressure. It will not tell you how much oil is in the engine. You could be several quarts low and still have pressure. What engine?

Probably a linkage came undone for the lock. Gonna have to peel the panel off for that.

New ignition cylinder helps the no start with key trick.

Don’t know what’s on the video as it won’t play, but if you’re talking about the oil pressure gauge in the cluster, it only moves below 7 PSI. It’s a dummy gauge.
