Hey guys! I have noticed a strange oil looking drip inside the cab of my 79. I have not traced under the dash yet to see if the oil pressure line for the gauge runs toward the passenger side? That is where this drip is located. Thanks for any advice!
Other project going once hunting season slows down is front inner axle seals. I have gear oil pouring out of the tube at the passenger side u-joint.
Your stock oil pressure sending unit is elec, if you have a aftermarket oil pressure gauge (and the line is the common plastic one), you can get a leak easy enough. They make a copper line kit to replace the plastic one. Normally there is NO oil line over there or inside the cab in a stock set up. Now there is a heater core right above that leak and if is looked and smelt like antifreeze, heater core replacement time.
As far as the front axel seal, there is no axle "end" seal to replace. You have to get inside the axle and you have to pull the internals out to replace it. Walk thru and pics right here. https://www.pavementsucks.com/thread...ement.1060708/
Plastic can easily be over tightened and leak at a fitting. Copper can work harden and crack developing a leak. Both need protection going through sheet metal. My '67 Chevelle once leaked oil from the OEM mechanical gauge connector end, was plastic tube OEM, found spots on new boots one night.
Why would you ask for advice that you have'nt tried to figure out for yourself. Welcome to FTE we have plenty of help here, but it requires the PO to be able to do something about it.
We learned our lesson with the Poly oil pressure line the hard way. Almost burned our 72 Duster 340 up. Ruptured in the engine bay spraying hot oil on hot headers going through the beams at the top end. Always keep a fire extinguisher in these old gems.
