Unless you really muffle the exhaust to an extreme amount it'll still have that 6 cylinder sound. Keep in mind too that the fewer the number of cylinders the tougher it is to effectively muffle the exhaust. A typical 90 degree V8 is a rather unique situation when it comes to exhaust in that each side of the engine has 2 cylinders that fire only 90 degrees apart and thus overlap. The exhaust sounds and behaves sort of like a V6 with two larger cylinders, one on each side.
Compare the sound of the engine in these two videos of engines that I'm running on the dyno, both are Cleveland engines for Pantera applications, the 384 cubic inch one uses a conventional 4 into 1 Pantera header with a 2.5 inch outlet pipe. The other one which is 406 cubic inches uses a beautiful set of stainless steel 180 degree headers where two pipes cross over from each side making each collector act as though it was connected to a 4 cylinder engine. Both engines are making around 620 horsepower and turning to about 7000rpm.
