What is actually happening with the transfer case and front differential when in 4x2? I assume they are just free spinning. The reason I ask, is my 2015 just crossed 200K miles and its time to to change the rear differential fluid again. I have engaged the front differential a grand total of one time for about 1/4 mile in 50K miles. My gut tells me there should be nothing wrong with the transfer case fluid or the front differential fluid. What is the general consensus here?
Id do the T case every time I did the rear diff as gears and bearings are always moving in it. It dont hold but 2 quarts in my 99 F250 so its cheap maint. The front diff if you never use 4wd maybe every 100K if that.

This ^^^ , the transfer case is easy enough & only takes the 2 qts. of LV. The front diff I would not mess with, I did mine with 140k miles on the truck when I bought it & the fluid I got out looked as good as the fluid I put in.
Copy...I'll do the T-Case and that was specifically why I asked about the front differential. When I changed it at 150K it was clearly the first time it had been changed and the fluid literally looked new. Thanks for the help.

yes, the front will have good oil mixed in with water. The water collects from condensation and enters thru the vent line.
