I was wondering on which way I should go with this install.
1. Have the screens installed on the headrests of the front seat?
a. How big of a screen can I install?
b. Will this be kid proof as not to crack?
2. Have the screens installed overhead?
a. How big of screen can I install?
b. How big of screen is too big?
c. What good aftermarket company makes the center console to
match the OEM of the interior?
I would ask the experts. I bought 2 portable units that the screen unstraps and you can tie to the head rest and it works great you can link the screens so they can watch the same thing or the watch different things.
I would think the head rest would be a better choise just b/c there are no moving parts and you know kids trying to open or close the thing it would last a day with mine.
Audio vox
Circuit city I think the screens are 5" the picture is great and they were under $300. I looked all over and this was by far the best deal. Plus I can swap cars with them. The screen can be use alone for video games, receiver for a sat, or VCR also.
I did an aftermarket from a local distributor/installer. I went a bit overboard and got a dual screen (Overhead) with DVD, wireless headphones and RF modulator tied into my stereo.
Look for the bus beast. The dual screens allow my kids to either watch a movie on both screens or play their video games on one screen and watch a movie on the other. The overhead displays have jacks to feed video/audio in at the display. SO my rear seat has a 110V converter and the "plug" the game system into the rear monitor. Leaves the front screen tied to DVD player.
PS the audio vox console with the dual screens is a standard console. Again you can see the installation photos at the superford site above.
Nice setup. What are the size of the screens? I was looking into getting the 8" or 10" Im not too sure what the AudioVox setup is capable of holding? I was going for the same setup. What was the price you paid if you dont mind me asking?
Sorry for the late reply, but I've been on travel. The screens are 8". The cost for 10" was very prohibitive. Like double the cost. The screens are extremely clear and I have had 7 kids ranging in age from 13 to 19 sitiing in the back two seats enjoying the show with no complaints.
Sorry the cost for the entire setup including 4 wireless headphones, dual DVD's, RF modulator (to play surround sound using the FM receiver was $2200.....Larger screens would have added another $1400 if I remember right.
