As I understand it, my 2017 F350 super duty has no cabin air filter. I’m noticing a decrease in the output of my air-conditioning. My Freon is fine, I’m wondering if there’s a way to get in there and clean out the airbox?
Just as an FYI, in all previous Ford trucks I removed the glove box and all the liners/trim pieces etc to get to the cabin filter, just like the instructions show that ATC posted.. I just changed the cabin filter for the first time in my 2022 350 and I did it without removing the glove box. Once you drop the glove box there's enough room to get in after removing the top trim piece with the two 7mm screws. Once the two 7mm are removed and you pop out that trim piece there's enough room to reach in there and remove the filter cover and replace.
I normally use WIX oil filters and Motorcraft transmission and Motorcraft air filter (motor). BUT, for the cabin air filter, I've found the Carbon Activated embedded filters do a much better job of keeping odors out of the cabin.
I've had great luck with this brand from Amazon. Fits and looks as good or better than OEM Motorcraft (Motorcraft does not have activated carbon).
Spearhead

I just replaced mine on my '17 F-250 and boy was it dirty. Fairly straightforward install. I think this is the one filter people don't give much thought too.

What step # from the instructions are you eliminating? If you are removing the 7mm screws and the piece that they hold, then it sounds like you are doing all the steps.
The first time I did the cabin filter I considered trying it with only the lower glove box dropped (steps 1-3), no removal of any other pieces. I even found a video showing that the filter can be accessed that way. But, I also noticed from the video that it required much more manipulation of the filter to get it out and in that way. So I ended up doing the standard r&r procedure shown above.

Steps 2 and 3. I skipped those extra steps of fully lowering the glove box once I started messing with the tab on the right side and thought maybe I can do it without messing with the tabs, and I could, very easily.
1) Changing the filter with ATC's instructions is easy.
2) Changing the filter with ATC's instructions is stupid difficult compared to what if should be.
No contradiction here.
